About the conference

In countries such as Austria, people are particularly proud of their landscape and nature. However, mountain sports and other outdoor activities are often difficult to access for migrants and refugees, and in particular women from this target group —equipment, technical terms, transportation, and a lack of information and visible diversity make it difficult for them to get involved.

Out4In project promotes the empowerment, inclusion, and environmental awareness of Refugee and Migrant women and girls (RMW). It aims to encourage equity and inclusion by reducing barriers to participation in outdoor experiences for a target group traditionally underrepresented.

VIDC is hosting a 1-day conference “Mountains for all!” on 11 December in Vienna - to share the outcomes of the OUT4In project, to discuss barriers and best practice for vulnerable groups towards outdoor sports and to connect with relevant stakeholders and organisations in the field to enhance active participation of migrant and refugee women and girls.

A special occasion

You’ll be joining a dynamic group of professionals and organisations, including:

  • NGOs and community groups actively supporting refugee and migrant women
  • Outdoor educators, hiking guides, youth workers, and nature-based facilitators
  • Policymakers and public officials (local, national, and EU level) working on inclusion and sport
  • Sports clubs, cultural associations, and feminist organisations promoting gender equity
  • Environmental and natural heritage organisations committed to inclusive access to nature
  • Researchers, academics, and educators in migration, social inclusion, and experiential learning

This conference is a unique opportunity to exchange ideas, build partnerships, and co-shape the future of inclusive outdoor practice across Europe.

About the Out4In project

The Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership OUT4In addresses a critical gap: while outdoor activities are central to life in countries like Austria, refugee and migrant women and girls (RMW) face systemic barriers—lack of equipment, unfamiliarity with technical terms, childcare duties, and limited representation—that exclude them from nature-based experiences.

OUT4In responds by co-creating inclusive, empowering outdoor pathways that foster social integration, environmental awareness, digital literacy, and active citizenship.
