fairplay training for workshop leaders

In May, the annual training for our workshop leaders took place in Burgenland.

The fairplay trainers meet one weekend a year to exchange ideas and methods and to prepare for their upcoming assignments in the best possible way. In 2023, our training took place from 5 to 7 May in Zurndorf in Burgenland.

For two days, 15 participants from all over Austria, six of them partipcated for the first time, delved into the central topics of our workshops for children and young people as well as other fairplay education offers. These have always included diversity and anti-discrimination, social inclusion, sport for development and human rights, as well as our new area of responsibility, the contact point for the prevention of anti-human ideologies. A toolkit and video from the European Sentry project was also presented, which focuses on the importance of reporting, raising awareness and engaging against discriminatory incidents in sport and how focal points can support.

The focus was on the social context, the role of sport and, above all, the methodical teaching of these topics. In addition, there was time and space to introduce the practice of our workshops, to plan new activities for the coming autumn, to look forward to possible further training and to get to know each other and team-building through joint sport and movement.

The fairplay workshops for children and young people are aimed at all interested parties aged between 10 and 16. They are open to schools, youth centres, clubs, football camps and many more. Our aim is to combine sport and learning in the sense of social responsibility, and to convey the topics in an interactive way with many movement elements. Our workshop guide provides an insight into the content and methods of our work.

The training as well as the workshops are funded by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and supported by the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Public Service and Sports (BMKÖS). The workshops are an important contribution to extracurricular educational work, addressing global and social issues packaged in movement games. On the one hand, we draw attention to inequalities and racism in society, on the other hand, we promote social inclusion and encourage participants to think about sustainable development (Sustainable Development Goals) and human rights.

Within the framework of fairplay education, we also offer workshops for adults, training courses and multiplier trainings.
