SPIN Youth goes European Week of Sport 2025, 23.-30.9.25

It’s a highlight for the sports world across an entire continent every year: For more than 10 years, the European Week of Sport has taken place in the last week of September under the motto #BeActive. This year, we are (once again) taking part with a very special campaign from our Erasmus+ project “Empower Diverse Youth – Build-up Youth Participation and Inclusion in Sport Organizations (SPIN Youth).” The goal of the project is to increase the participation of young people (ages 15–27) with diverse backgrounds (refugee, migration, ethnic minority) in sports and thus contribute to more inclusion and diversity in our societies.

SPIN Youth runs from January 2024 to June 2026 and works across 8 countries (Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, Finland, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, and Portugal) in close cooperation with a group of 16 dedicated Youth Coordinators. In their respective countries, these coordinators work with a Youth Panel to explore questions around barriers and possible measures to foster the participation of young people with diverse backgrounds. After a joint training in Rome in October 2024, they have carried out action research over the past months and, building on this, have put together first initiatives in the form of an action plan. Some of these initiatives will now be presented and piloted in the context of the European Week of Sport 2025 through public activities and events.

The range of topics addressed includes financial and logistical barriers, bureaucratic hurdles, language requirements, issues of welcoming culture, and the importance of role models.
