Guideline: Together Against Antisemitism

The fairplay guideline “Together Against Antisemitism” is intended to provide guidance and recommendations for organized sports and was presented on July 6 at the Sportarena Wien.

Antisemitism and other forms of group-focused hostility are not marginal phenomena, but rather part of social reality. They occur in various social contexts—in everyday life, in the digital sphere, in political debates, and also in sports. Against this backdrop, sports take on particular significance as a field for preventive action.

The fairplay Initiative at the VIDC, in cooperation with the Coalition to Counter Online Antisemitism (CCOA), developed guidelines on antisemitism in sports. The guidelines serve as practical recommendations for action and are intended to be used as a resource to combat antisemitism in sports.

Numerous sports federations and clubs, as well as institutions engaged in antisemitism research and remembrance work, attended the presentation at the Sportarena Wien, thereby sending a clear message against hateful ideologies in sports.

The keynote address by Solveig Barth (CCOA) provided an overview of the threat posed by antisemitism in the online space. This is because the sphere of influence of sports clubs and federations extends far beyond the analog world. After all, the same channels that can foster a sense of community within clubs can also become breeding grounds for hate and discrimination.

In addition to the written guidelines, an illustrative summary in poster form was also presented.
