Football belongs to the world

This is the message of the new campaign, “Keep the World in the World Cup,” which was launched in early March by the Sport & Rights Alliance ahead of the upcoming FIFA Men’s World Cup.

However, the rising authoritarianism, attacks on migrants, and setbacks in human rights in the United States—which will host 78 of the 104 matches as well as the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles—jeopardize the promise of a grand, inclusive tournament that respects human rights.

As a strategic partner of the Sport & Rights Alliance, we are joining the campaign and calling on FIFA to use its considerable influence to push through vital reforms so that the World Cup truly includes the whole world.

We are a movement of football fans, athletes, workers, members of local communities, and human rights organizations who have come together under the slogan “Keep the World in the World Cup.” We call on FIFA to work with the host countries to ensure that the rights of residents and communities in the host cities, the rights of athletes, freedom of expression, the rights of fans, freedom of the press, LGBTQI rights, workers’ rights, and children’s right to a safe tournament environment are upheld.
