FARE Network General Assembly & Conference in Lisbon

The Fare Network, which we co-founded, is calling for its General Assembly and the "Equality and Inclusion in Football" conference in June.

The European FARE Network, founded in Vienna in 1999 at a conference organised by fairplay, is organising a conference on equality and inclusion in football. Entitled 'Equality and Inclusion in Football', the event will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, from 15-16 June 2023 and will bring together leading experts, NGOs and football associations to showcase an uptake of anti-discrimination and equality in football and set agendas for future action.

The conference will address challenges and best practices in the following areas: Dealing with Discrimination in Football; Hate Speech on the Internet; Diverse Leadership; Developing Policies for the Integration of Intersex and Transgender People; Combating Anti-Semitism and the Integration of Refugees through Football.

Speakers include representatives from the United Nations Refugee Agency, the European Commission, FIFA, UEFA, football associations, football clubs, Major League Soccer and many others.

Registration is still possible under this link: Registration

The FARE network also offers to replace or support the travel costs to Portugal.

Long tradition of the fairplay initiative on the FARE Board

Until 2010, the FARE Network was coordinated by the fairplay initiative in Vienna. In 2010, it was re-established as a separate organisation based in London (and now also in Amsterdam). Members of the fairplay team have been part of the FARE Board ever since, initially Markus Pinter (until 2019), then Martin Kainz. This time, Stefan Belabed, who joined fairplay at the beginning of 2022, is standing for election. He has contributed his know-how from the beginning, especially in the area of inclusion of refugees in sport, and coordinates the workshops and training courses in the area of "fairplay education".
