Club 2x11: How cinema learned to kick – the history and development of football films, 11.9.25

Start: 7:00 p.m. - Admission free!
Main Library on the Gürtel, Urban-Loritz-Platz 2a, 1070 Vienna,
Event Hall (3rd floor)
Vienna offers a wide variety of film festivals, but football has not played a role in them so far. Last year, two football film events celebrated their debut: “Screenshot” – the open-air festival on the grounds of the young football and cultural association 1210 Wien – and the “Football Cine Cup” at the Breitenseer Lichtspiele, Vienna's oldest cinema. Together with Andreas Kous, artistic director (midfield director) of Screenshot, and Dieter Mattersdorfer, director (manager) of the Breitenseer Lichtspiele, we want to explore how this came about, why there are now two football film series, and how they will continue.
The author of the unique football film encyclopedia, Jan Tilman Schwab, will give an overview of the development of the two mass phenomena of film and football, and Dominik Thaller, director of Screenshot's opening film, Immer wieder geht die Sonne auf (The Sun Always Rises Again), will talk about his approach and experiences in the field of soccer documentary film.
Panel:
Jan Tilman Schwab, author and editor of Fußballfilmlexikon (Soccer Film Encyclopedia)
Andreas Kous, artistic director of SCREENSHOT
Dieter Mattersdorfer, director of Breitenseer Lichtspiele
Dominik Thaller, director of Immer wieder geht die Sonne auf (The Sun Rises Again and Again)
Moderator: Mareike Boysen, journalist, secretary general of Wir Frauen im Sport (We Women in Sports)
