Club 2x11: Open flank. Right-wing extremism in football, 24.6.25

An event in co-operation with the Documentation Centre of Austrian Resistance.

Tuesday, June 24, 2025, 7:00 p.m., Main Library on the Gürtel
Urban-Loritz-Platz 2a, 1070 Vienna, Event Hall (3rd floor)
Start: 7:00 p.m. - Admission free!

Why are stadiums across Europe repeatedly the scene of right-wing extremist activities? What do organized right-wing extremists hope to achieve by trying to recruit in the stands? What structures can facilitate these attempts? And what stands in their way? What role do ultras play in this context? And how can fans combat racism and other forms of discrimination? Dutch political scientist Cas Mudde will be in Vienna on June 24 to discuss these and other questions about the connection between soccer and politics at Club 2×11. He will be joined by Stefan Belabed from fairplay prevention and Bianca Kämpf from the Documentation Center of Austrian Resistance, who will talk about the situation in Austrian stadiums and the importance of prevention work.

Panel discussion with:
Stefan Belabed, fairplay prevention
Bianca Kämpf, right-wing extremism researcher, DÖW
Cas Mudde, political scientist, University of Georgia

Moderator: Jakob Rosenberg, DÖW

All updates on the discussion will follow on the ballesterer social media channels. This Club 2×11 event is organized by the Vienna Public Libraries, the fairplay initiative, Wir Frauen im Sport, and ballesterer in cooperation with the Documentation Center of the Austrian Resistance.
