Club 2x11 - Heroine or goalpost? - The special role in the goal, 17.4.23

"Free as a bird, like a bird in the wind / the ball came with a cross / but I was not the bird's child / the striker said THANK YOU".

Christian Kössler has not yet been able to satisfactorily answer the question of how someone could come up with the idea of wanting to prevent exactly what the spectators of a football match have come to see. The number one of the national team of authors has recently dealt with the various peculiarities of being a goalkeeper in poetry and prose. Milan Radin's biographical novel "The Goalkeeper" revolves around Helmut "Ducki" Duckadam, Steaua Bucharest's penalty kick hero in the 1986 European Champion Clubs' Cup final, who became a victim of Romanian state security shortly after his greatest triumph.

How does it feel to live in the peculiar position of the last man standing, who is rarely accused of being able to play football? What makes a good first goalkeeper? What makes a second? How much self-will and how much team spirit do goalkeeper coaches require?

This two-part Club 2 x 11 aims to explore literary perspectives on goalkeepers as well as the harsh everyday realities of the turf perspective.
