Some understand it to mean an innovative approach to the game, others contemporary stadiums and customer friendliness, and still others the root of all evil - but what is modern soccer anyway? What makes it special? And what distinguishes it from earlier forms of the sport? In his latest book, Christoph Biermann doesn't give a big answer to these questions, but rather many small ones that add up to the big one.

In "At Any Price," the book deals with prominent players such as star coaches and players and lesser-known ones such as fans, club doctors and business consultants. The observations range from absurd transfer fee participations and literary longsellers to perfect turf lengths and controlled sleep rhythms.

In a Club 2 × 11 special, 11Freunde editor and book author Christoph Biermann reads from his latest work and discusses with ballesterer editor-in-chief Jakob Rosenberg and visitors the big and small changes in soccer over the past 30 years.
